For our 2006 Honda CRF450R Bike Build project we’ll be installing an IMS oversized 4 gallon fuel tank. The stock tank has a capacity of 1.9 gallons, so the additional 2.1 gallons of fuel will really benefit this bike for long trips on the trails and we’re very happy we won’t have to be worrying about keeping a close eye on it.
Gasoline weighs roughly 6 lbs per gallon, so we are adding closer to an additional 13 lbs to the bike when the tank is fuel. With the 450R having gobbs of power…I’m welcoming the additional weight to help keep the front end down.
We went with the natural finish so it would make it easy for us to quickly reference the current status of gas. The color is not to flattering so we plan on having custom graphics made for it and we’ll incorporate a “site glass” cut out in the vinyl so we can still see fuel levels.
Here are some photos of the tank out of the box. We’ll be putting together an install video and additional information for this fuel tank in the near future.
