Carlisle AT489

Although this ATV tire has a 3 ply bias-ply design we’ve personally had a great experience with this tire. It was able to tackle the same trails we tested a Maxxis 6 ply tire on. The Carlisle AT489 held up great on rocky trails, road smooth and drudge through mud and water deeper then the tire itself. Maybe that’s why Polaris uses them as their OEM tire for the Sportsman line.
CST Abuzz

This all-terrain tire does offer a 6 ply bias-ply construction. It has great all around tread design along with the added feature of wrap around lugs. This is a feature normally seen on more expensive high performance ATV tires, but CST was able to include this great feature at a reasonable price. The wrap-around lugs offer more protection to the sidewall of the tire and they get that added traction when the tire is turning through ruts.
Cheap ATV Mud Tires
For the riders that are always in the search of that deep mud pit we were able to find three models that have good reputation for performing great in the mud and are easy on the wallet. Those models are the Kenda Bear Claw, Maxxis Zilla and ITP Mud Lite AT

This tire has been on the market over 13 years and it’s one of Kenda’s biggest successes. It offers a 6 ply bias-ply construction and deep lugs that stretch from the center all the way into the shoulder of the tire. The smaller lugs that run down the center of the tire provide consistent contact with the surface which reduces vibration.

The Zilla is a 6 ply bias-ply mud tire. With well spaced super tall treads laid out in a pattern that sweeps away mud and channeled lugs for additional traction, the Maxxis Zilla is a true ATV mud tire and is a great entry tire into ATV mudding.
ITP MudLite AT

The MudLite AT model is ITP’s entry level mud tire. The lugs are not as deep as the more aggressive MudLite models and the treads are closer together, making this a versatile mud tire that performs well on trails with changing terrain. It also sports a 6 ply bias-ply construction. If you prefer a slightly more aggressive tread pattern for about an extra $10 a tire you can step up to the ITP MudLite XL.
Cheap ATV Tires for Rocky Trails
Whether you’re riding in the mountains, the desert, rock quarries or creek beds it’s a good idea to be outfitted with some good ATV tires that can handle the rocky terrain. These types of tires have large wrap-around lugs to protect the sidewall and chunky tread patterns that not only provide good grappling, but also protect the body of the tire from sharp rocks. Most riders are familiar with the Maxxis Bighorn for this type of application, but we’ve found cheaper ATV tires with similar features that will get the job done; the Duro DI2025 Power Grip and Artrax CTX.

The Duro Power Grip has a 4 ply & 6 ply construction options for 14 and 12 inch rims. This tire also features a radial design which allows the tires tread to stay squarely planted on a surface while the machine is experiencing articulation, a great feature for crawling over big rocks. Radial tires also ride smoother at fast speeds on trails that are littered with rocks.
